This course introduces students to the field of leadership through the study of Stephen Covey’s character-based principles. Students will explore leadership not merely as a set of skills, but as a disciplined field of study centered on personal and interpersonal effectiveness. By the end of this course, students will be able to identify key resources in the field and articulate how these principles inform their specific vocational journey.

Required Text:

  • Stephen R. Covey. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. (ISBN 978-0671708634).
  • Note: This course assigns a curated selection of 200 pages from the text to focus on core leadership principles.

Course Requirements:

Final Oral Assessment: A presentation on how these principles apply to the student’s specific vocational field.

Participation: Attendance in all virtual sessions and active engagement in discussions.

Tiny Writing Prompts: Weekly reflections (Weeks 2-6) focused on “Exploring the Field” indicators.

Final Comparative Essay: A 3-page paper comparing Covey’s framework to another leadership resource.
