Welcome to our 5-week online course on the historical books and prophets of the Old Testament with Fr. Lawrence Farley! This course will pick up the narrative of the nation of Israel where the last class left off, with Israel conquering the Promised Land. We will continue to examine this narrative from the settlement of the land through the period of judges, to the establishment, schism, and eventual collapse of the Israelite monarchy. We will then continue to follow Israel’s history through the Babylonian Exile and the nation’s return under Cyrus the Great, concluding with the second Temple period. Finally, we will also examine the writings of the prophets, both within the historical narrative of the Old Testament and Christologically, examining what they say concerning the coming Messiah.
We will send out a link a few days before the first class. The class will meet on the following dates: 11/14/2023, 11/21/2023, 11/28/2023, 12/5/2023, and 12/12/2023. All classes will meet at 7pm Eastern except on 11/21/2023, when we will meet at 6:30pm Eastern.
If you would like to keep up with the course readings, you may access the syllabus by clicking on the “Materials” tab above. We will also post the recordings of the lectures as they become available under the same tab.
