What: Mission/service trip to help build the first Orthodox monastery (ROCOR) in Puerto Rico

Why: To practice servant leadership in an immersive environment

Who: Archers from the Antiochian Village Archweek

When: July 7-15, 2024.

How much: $1,073 (includes all transportation on the island, excursion fees, lodging, and food). Please bring your own money for souvenirs. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to reserve your spot. The balance is due May 1st.

Travel: We request everyone to fly American Airlines in the following format: AA 1149 from PIT to PHL, AA 1529 from PHL to SJU with arrival in San Juan at 11:15 PM. Lodging: All missionaries will stay in air-conditioned rooms with bunk beds at the mission. This is to ensure a refreshing night’s rest after each day of hard work.

Forms: Every missionary is expected to complete and sign a medical and liability form. These will be emailed out within a couple of weeks of receiving the deposit.

Maximum Number of Missionaries: 16

CITs: CITs (Counselors in Training) at the Antiochian Village for Session 3 will be allowed to travel back to Pittsburgh on Saturday night July 13. We encourage Session 3 CITs to book a flight from Aguadilla Airport (BQN) departing July 14 at 12:15 AM on United Flight 1162 to Newark, which would then connect to United 4494 arriving in Pittsburgh at 7:52 AM on July 14. CITs would then be picked up by the Antiochian Village Camp shuttle to return to camp.

Schedule Summary: On Monday we will explore the only sub-tropical rainforest of the United States Forestry Service, El Yunque. Then we will travel through the mountains to San German on the island’s southwest side. From Tuesday through Saturday, we are doing structural development at the mission. Work will take place in the mornings with fun activities and excursions in the afternoon, including special trips to the Caribbean Ocean! Sunday will begin with Divine Liturgy and conclude with a parish-wide trip to the beach. Then on Monday, July 15th, we will journey home as new missionaries to our hometown.
