This independent study course has been developed for the non-Orthodox student as well as the Orthodox Christian seeking a deeper knowledge of their own tradition. Its content is centered on a particular book, author, or theme regarding the theological, biblical, and spiritual foundations of, or contemporary cross currents within, the Christian East and/or West.
At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
• Describe the meaning and content of a particular text, author, or theme and its major contribution to spirituality, theology, and/or scripture.
• Define a specific question about a particular aspect of spirituality, theology, and/or scripture.
• Answer the above by researching the view of a particular author, employing critical analysis to understand his or her argument, and forming a cogent perspective on it.
• Grow in the ability to provide information and impart wisdom to others searching for answers about this particular aspect of faith.
The reading material will be chosen by the instructor with input from student(s).
